92 flats planned for riverside regeneration area
Town & Country Housing Group has applied for planning permission to build 92 flats as part of Tonbridge’s town centre riverside regeneration area.
Plans for the £9 million project on the former industrial site include a mixture of flats, parking for 93 cars and 11 motorcyles and 108 cycle spaces.
Town & Country is working closely with The Harvester Trust - which owns the nearby River Centre – to develop a scheme which fits well with other existing and planned developments in the area.
The ethos for both design and materials has been sustainability. The options we will look at to help achieve this will include generating renewable energy from photovoltaic solar panels to help power communal areas and keep service charges for residents to a minimum.
Town & Country will be working closely with Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council as housing authority to ensure that we create a balanced community by looking carefully at the tenure arrangements and lettings plan.
The cost of the project would be met by Town & Country, with support from the Homes and Communities Agency, the government body that provides funding for affordable housing.
Town & Country is a financially strong housing association which has a £150 million loan facility with two major banks and can use this to fund major housing projects.
If planning permission is granted, we aim to start work onsite in late 2009 and complete the scheme in mid 2011.
